Junior V. Self, 81, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2014 at VIP Manor in Wood River.
Born Dec. 12, 1933 in Gideon, Mo., he was a son of Horace B. Self and Hasrine (Arnold) Self.
He married Doris M. Geisler June 28, 1957 in Cottage Hills. She passed away Apr. 20, 2000.
Junior worked as a porter for Shell Oil Co. and retired after 39 years.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy (Melony) Self of Mitchell, Ill.; 4 grandchildren, Ciera, Blake and Kayla Self and Matthew Groves; a brother, James B. (Patricia) Self of Greenfield, Ill.; two sisters, Lois (John) Michaels of Maryland and Brenda Lawrence of Alton; a special niece and caregiver, Tammy (Devin) Clendenny of Cottage Hills; and a longtime caregiver and friend, Sidney “Snappy” Rice of Alton; and several additional nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his mother Hasrine, father Horace and stepmother Reba Self; a brother, Herman Self; and an infant sister.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 17 at Paynic Home for Funerals from 9 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m. His nephew, Pastor Mark Self will officiate.
Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to BJC Hospice.
