John M. Kozonasky, 83, died at 12:02 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at his home in Alton. Born December 15, 1929 in Passaic, NJ, he was the son of Nicholas and Rose (Dolinsky) Kozonasky. Mr. Kozonasky served with the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant during the Korean War and was a member of the Godfrey Baptist Church. He retired as a human resources Director for McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis. On December 3, 1949 he married the former H. Ruth Coonrod in Ft. Dixon, NJ. She preceded him in death at 12:02 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2013. Surviving are four children, John Kozonasky (Claudia), Susan Cole (Weston), Marcia Kozonasky, and Mary Kozonasky, eight grandchildren, Jackie Ridgley (Michael), David Turner-Cole (Jason), Amy Deardeuff (Andy), Melissa Kozonasky, John Kozonasky, Tara Kozonasky, Eryn Dean, and Andrew Cole, two step-grandchildren, Brian Stahlschmidt, and Chad Stahlschmidt (Amber), thirteen great grandchildren, and a sister, Dorothy Eberhard of New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his wife and two brothers, Michael J. and Joseph M. Kozonasky. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013. Reverend Dr. Glen Greenwood will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Greenfield, IL with full military honors by the Alton VFW Post 1308.
