John L. Young Sr., 86, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 in Ft. Myers, FL.
He was born on February 22, 1926 in Portageville, MO the son of the late Pete L. and Nannie Ellen (Linder) Young.
He married Margie Fritz in 1947 and she preceded him in death.
He attended the First Congregational Church in Bunker Hill and served his country in the Army during WWII.
He worked as an Overhead Crane Operator at Laclede Steel for 33 years and retired in 1979.
John was a member of Alton VFW Post 1308 in Alton and American Legion Post # 76 in Ft. Myers, FL.
He is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Sadie & Ron Mosher of Bell, MO, Joyce Young of Alton, IL, Loretta & Kevin Moore of Godfrey, IL, and Cindy and Dale Portell of Edwardsville, IL; four sons: Ronald K. and Venita Young of Godfrey, IL, John L. Jr. & Mary Young of Arnold, MO, Harvey L. & Jill Young of Godfrey, IL, and Gordon D. & Pam Young of Shipman, IL, ten grandchildren, and one sister Rose Miller of Alton, IL.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Nancy L. Hampton and three brothers: Dallas, Claude, and Jesse Young.
Visitation will be from 9 am until the time of service at 11 am Tuesday May 1, 2012 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton with Rev. Dave Burger officiating.
Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
