John Baker

Roxana |

John D. Baker, age 77, passed away at 1:05 p.m. Monday, January 4, 2016 at Christian N E Hospital in St. Louis.

Born October 30, 1938 in Dale, he was a son of the late James Anderson and Fannie Elizabeth (Davis) Baker.

John married the former Rosina Malley on October 16, 1959 in Wood River. Rosina was 17 years old when she met John. As it turned out John remembered her when he was a little boy living next door, but she didn’t remember him. Dating was fun times of going to the movies and drive inns even sneaking into her family’s driveway at night so they could have a little more time together. They were married 57 years. Although unable to have children of their own, they enjoyed their nieces and nephews, giving them presents that John himself would wrap.

John was a caring and giving person, when Rosina’s parents and brother needed help, he opened his home to them.

An Army veteran, John enjoyed his time in the service.

John worked as a Crane Operator for Laclede Steel in Alton for 46 years retiring in 2001.

Besides his wife Rosina, he is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Baker of Perrysburg, Ohio; three brothers, James Baker of El Dorado, Arnold Baker of Ironton, MO and Paul Baker of El Dorado.

Being a fishing man, the couple always enjoyed their fishing trips and later in life they played bingo.

Having walked a life time together, he has been the love of Rosina’s life and will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation will be at 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2016 until service time of 1:00 p.m., at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River. Rev. Steve Gray will officiate.

Burial will be at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.

Memorials may be given to that of one’s choice.
