John Baptist Bednar Jr., 85, of Troy, IL, died at Meridian Village, Glen Carbon, IL on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at 6:40 pm. He was born October 5, 1928, in Benld, IL to John Baptist Bednar & Veronica M. (Koniak) Bednar. He married Marilucille (Tannette) Bednar on September 2, 1950 in Benld, IL. She preceded him in death on October 2, 2011. He was a retired pipefitter for Chrysler Corp. John was a member of the K of C in Maryville and Troy and was a former Grand Knight. He is survived by his children, Susan (husband, Steven Michael) Horton of Sherman, TX, Amy (husband, James Timothy) Claxton of St. Louis, MO, Leslie Bednar (husband, Mark Hendrickson) of Troy, IL, Tim (wife, Danae) Bednar of St. Louis, MO, grandchildren, Jeanne Lawler, Geoffrey Folkers, Jason Packard, Katie Claxton, Addie Bednar, Sam Hendrickson, Alexandra Bednar, great-grandchildren, Luke and Jacob Lawler, Brayden and Chesney Folkers, brother, Herman "Herb" Bednar of MI, sisters, Christine Campbell of Oak Brook, IL, Patricia Seketa of Benld, IL, Mary "Dede" Garrett of Benld, IL & Theodora "Teddy" Mayfield of Avondale, AZ. John was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, son, John Franklin Bednar in infancy, brothers, Daniel Bednar, Robert Bednar, Eugene Bednar, Edward "Butch" Bednar, sisters, Helen Shiell, Eva Elliott, Joan Lienard, Monica Bilich & Rita Hunt. Friends may call on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at St. Jerome Church in Troy, IL from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Funeral mass will be Friday, May 16, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Church, Benld, IL with Fr. Pat Jakel officiating. Burial will be at Benld Cemetery, Benld, IL.
