Jesse Sasser

Jesse “David” Sasser, 86, passed away at 7:10 pm Friday, January 30, 2015 with his family by his side, under the care of BJC Hospice.

He was born September 25, 1928 in Lauderdale County, TN, the son of J.W. and Allie B. (Ward) Sasser.  

He married K. Marie Wiseman on February 14, 1951 in Hernando, MS. She survives. They celebrated 64 years of marriage.

David served his country in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict – 1946 to 1947.  He was a lineman for Ameren Electric Company for 40 years until retiring in 1988.  He was a member of the Meadowbrook 1st Southern Baptist Church.  He was a member of IBEW #649 for 60 years, was the Meadowbrook Fire Chief for 5 years.  He enjoyed camping, driving, telling stories and most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children and their spouses, David Timothy “Tim” and Terri Sasser of Williston, ND, Patty and Jeff Hemken of Hillsboro, IL, Janie and Jimmie Denton of Palmer, Alaska, Marty and Renee Sasser of Bethalto, Starla and Mark Cain of of Bethalto, Shelly and Donnie Hopson of Asheville, NC and Terry and Elizabeth Sasser of Villa Allende, Argentina; twenty four grandchildren and their spouses; thirty two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Barry Lynn Sasser, three brothers, Robert Sasser, William Sasser and Steve Sasser and two sisters, Eunice Rogers and Molly Sue Mintert.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Visitation will continue from 10 until services at 11am Thursday, February 5, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Calvin Reynolds and Pastor Jeff Hemken officiating. 

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military rites given by the Alton VFW Post 1308.

Memorials may be made to the BJC Hospice or Meadowbrook 1st Southern Baptist Church.
