Jed Franklin McClain was born on November 29, 1954, and died April 11, 2014. A life-long resident of Alton, IL, Jed graduated from Alton High School in 1973 and later from St. Louis University. He was employed at 1st MidAmerica Credit Union. His faith in Jesus Christ was paramount in his life. He served at Calvary Baptist Church in the jail ministry, as a Sunday school teacher, and as a deacon. More recently at The Bridge, he worked with the weekly prayer team. His most cherished relationships were those with his wife of thirty-five years Sally Harris McClain and his son Hunter Franklin McClain. Through Hunter, Jed became an avid fan of the Baylor Bears and the great state of Texas. He was a loving son, faithful brother, and adored uncle. Besides Sally and Hunter, he is survived by his parents Ralph and Mary Lou McClain of Godfrey; his siblings Pam (Jim) Youngblood of Alton; Tanya Thompson of Columbia, MO; and Bart (Louetta) McClain of Louisville, KY, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He will be dearly missed by all his loved ones. He is preceded in death by his brother Ralph Franklin McClain II. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Pastors Andre’ Dobson and Steven Helfrich will officiate. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
