James Willis Beatty, 76, passed away at 12:50 am, Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Alton, IL on June 16, 1938, the son of the late Willis and Eva Marie (Kiedel) Beatty.
He married Anita S. Flynn on June 21, 1958. She preceded him in death.
James was an insurance agent for Prudential Insurance in Alton. His grandchildren were his hobby and his greatest joy. He enjoyed fishing and investments.
He is survived by four sons, Jeff Beatty of Wood River, Mark (Sabra) Beatty of Bethalto, Mike Beatty of Fosterburg, and Bob Beatty of Wood River; one daughter, Kathy (Richard) Woods of Brighton; two sisters, Marlene Carlson of Quincy and Julia (Dan) Brawley of Granite City; one brother, David (Carolyn) Beatty of Alton; six grandchildren, Michael Beatty, Danielle (Nick) Wetzel, Matthew Beatty, Benjamin Beatty, Drew (Stacia) Woods, and Adam (Rachel) Woods; and five great-grandchildren, Brayden and Liam Wetzel, Alex, Cameron, and Casey Woods.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Kit Carlson.
Visitation will be from 2 pm to 6 pm on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.
Funeral service will be at 10 am on Monday, November 10, 2014 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
