James Smith

James A. Smith, 61, passed away 11:10 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital.Born in Wood River on June 4, 1952, he was the son of James and Dorothy (Shattuck) Smith.A member of Machinist Union, he had worked over 25 years at Olin as a equipment operator.He was a proud member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting.On March 16, 1974 in Rosewood Heights, he married the former Deborah Bilbruck.  She survives.Surviving also are a son, Jeff (Stephanie) Smith of Wood River; daughter, Michelle (Joe) Wiegand of Wood River; five grandchildren, Emma and Aubrey Wiegand, Landon, Noah and Isabella Smith; two sisters, Cheryl Smith of Carlinville, Sandra (Ron) Meintzer of Bethalto; several nieces and nephews.Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday.  Pastor Matt Campbell will officiate.Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation or American Heart Association.
