James A. 'Jim' Little Sr., 76, passed away 2:40 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014 at his residence.
Born in Calhoun County on August 13, 1938, he was the son of Enos and Blanche (Foster) Little.
A U.S. Army veteran, and member of Teamsters Local #525, he work for Alton Refrigeration as a driver.
Jim loved to fish and hunt, especially ducks, squirrel and pheasant. He greatly enjoyed searching and collecting mushrooms. He collected and maintained a large arrowhead and rock collection. An avid book lover, both in print and audio, he mostly enjoyed reading and learning about World War II weapons.
His memberships include the Alton Eagles Aries 254 and the 1st United Methodist Church in Wood River.
On June 5, 1982 in Wood River, he married the former Janet (Harris Pontow. She survives.
Surviving also are a son, James A., Jr.(Diana Lynne) Little of South Roxana; step-son, Keith (Danielle) Pontow of Wood River; daughter, Sherry Lynne (Brian) Kinkel of Fieldon; step-daughter, Christine (Scott) Crawford of Wood River; six grandchildren, Jeff Harvey, Elissha Lenhardt, Steven Goldman, Jacob, Kyle and Sean Pontow; two great grandchildren, Ethan Lenhardt and Jordan Harvey; and nephews, Jason and Justin Jilg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Gary Jilg.
A memorial visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12 p.m. Monday at the 1st United Methodist Church in Wood River. Rev. Kimberly Allen will officiate.
Burial will follow in Indian Creek Cemetery in Hamburg.
Memorials may be made to the Tree House Wildlife Sanctuary, Salvation Army of 1st United Methodist Church.
