Irene Lillian Jepp, 73, died at 2:14 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born February 16, 1941 in Surrey, England, she was the daughter of James Thomas and Ester (Cooper) Hobbs. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Springfield, IL and worked for the Alton School District, where she loved the feeling of being needed, as a teacher’s aide from 2006 until her retirement in 2013. She had also previously worked at Lowe’s in Springfield, IL for 11 years and before that was co-owner of Home Electrical Services in Springfield.
On May 28, 1960 she married Alan Robert Jepp in Fleet Hants, England. Together they enjoyed ballroom dancing where they received many gold medals.
Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl McKee (David) of Godfrey, and Dawn Matt (John) of Polson, MT, a son, Paul Jepp (Kim) of Rochester, IL, five grandchildren, Austin McKee of Godfrey, Autumn Jepp of Rochester, IL, Eric Matt and Russell Matt both of Polson, MT, and Lindsey McKee of Godfrey, a sister, Beryl Arjmand (Dr. Towfig Arjmand) of Springfield, IL, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother and sister-in-law, James and Marjorie Hobbs.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the Community Christian Church in Alton. Robert Burkett Thomas will officiate.
