Howard Bost

Howard Eugene Bost, 72, passed away at 1:45 pm Sunday, August 31, 2014 at his daughter’s house with his family by his side. 

He was born on May 28, 1942 in Hillsboro, IL, the son of Caleb and Nina Mae (Brown) Otis.

He married Marilyn Sue McNeil on June 19, 1964 in Wood River. She preceded him in death on October 7, 2010. 

Howard served his country in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman 2nd Class from 1961 to 1965.  He was a plant operator at BOC for 41 years until his retirement in 2006.  He was a member of HOG (Harley Owners Group) and the Bethalto Senior Citizens.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his father, Caleb Otis of Wood River, two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Kim Bost of Bethalto and Craig and Missy Bost of Maryville; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Eric Hawkins of Bethalto; nine grandchildren, Tim and his wife, Chelsi Owens, Matt Owens, Jordan and Sidney Bost and Andy, Michael & Kaitlyn Ambrose, Tyler Hawkins and Alyssa and Sean Dolan; five great grandchildren, Norah, Fiona, Hayden, Addison, and Peyton; his sisters and their spouses, Donna & Jerry Spencer of Wood River and Jan & John Hagman of Cove City, AR; a brother, Darrell Bost of Islamorada, FL; a special friend, Eileen Hargrave and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. 

In addition to his mother and wife, Marilyn, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Bost, a nephew, Robbie Schoeneweis, his in-laws, John and Mary McNeil, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dan and Donna Narup. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral in Bethalto.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the funeral home with Pastor Pat Heston officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation or the March of Dimes.
