Herbert C. McCarty Sr., 85, retired pastor; passed away at 9:45 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, in St. Louis, Mo.
He was born Nov. 17, 1928, in Louisville, Ky., the son of the late Arthur Roy and Mary Georgia (Alford) McCarty. He pastored seven churches in five different states including, Indiana, Alabama, Kentucky, Ohio and Illinois. On Nov. 2, 1957, he married Elaine (Carter) and she preceded him in death on July 25, 2005.
He is survived by one son, Herbert C. McCarty Jr. (Katrina) of Belleville; and two grandchildren, Thomas and Laurabelle McCarty.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin McCarty and Roy McCarty; and two sisters, Jesteen Andersen and Coreen Whimpee.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, at Gospel Tabernacle Church in Godfrey, with Reverend Alfred Daves to officiate.
Visitation will continue Monday, March 10, from 1 p.m. until time of funeral at 2:30 p.m. at Gospel Kingdom Church in Louisville, Ky. with Reverend Jesse Urbano to officiate.
Burial will be at the Gospel Kingdom Campground Cemetery in Shepherdsville, Ky.
