Helen V. Black, 91, died at 10:30 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2014 at her home in Dorsey. Born November 10, 1922 in Gainesville, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Jack and Mina (Buchanan) Freeman. Mrs. Black was a homemaker and a member of the Emmanuel Free Methodist Church in Alton. She married Vaughn C. Black. He preceded her in death. Surviving is a daughter, Virginia Shive of Dorsey, a son, Thomas B. Yopp (Marilyn) of Broomfield, CO, eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Rolland Shive, two brothers and five sisters. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Emmanuel Free Methodist Church in Alton. Reverend Mark Scandrett will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel Free Methodist Church. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
