Harry Cranmer

Harry “Sam” Cranmer, age 87, died at 3:10 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at his residence. Born November 29, 1926 in Alton, he was the son of Eugene and Anna (Lamparter) Cranmer. He retired from the U.S. Navy and also from Laclede Steel in Alton as a foreman. He was a member of the Alton VFW Post 1308, Fleet Reserve Association and Tin Can Sailors Association. On December 27, 1947 he married the former Shirley Carlton. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Denise Marin (Anthony) of Godfrey, four sons, Dennis Cranmer (Kathy) of Avon, IN, Kevin Cranmer of Brighton, Jeffery Cranmer and his friend Wendy of Brussells, and Eric Cranmer (Sonja) of Godfrey, 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a sister, Vivian Douglas of Godfrey. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Sonny Cramer and Eugene Cranmer, and two sisters, Lillian Heckman and Viola Heckman. Visitation will be from 4:00 -8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday with Larry Reid officiating. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308.
