George William Miller Jr., 69, died at 8:56 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at his daughter’s home in Alton. Born April 6, 1944 in Biloxi, MS, he was the son of the late George W. Miller Sr. and Ruth (Fahrig) Miller. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from the Olin Corporation as a machinist in 2008 after 25 years of service. He was an avid Cardinal baseball fan and was always joking around. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. On June 28, 1965 he married the former Beverly Graham. She survives. Also surviving are his step-mother Elveria Miller of Collinsville, a daughter, Twyla Borman (David Milford) of Alton, a son, Travis Miller (Kate) of Washington, IL, four grandchildren, Jessica Borman, Delaney Miller, Jesse Miller, and Colton Miller, a brother, Marvin Miller (Cindy) of Plains, Montana, a sister, Ellen Rainey of Alton and a step-sister, Connie Turner of Collinsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Emily Renee Borman, and a brother-in-law, Robert Rainey. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014. Father Tom Donovan will officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
