George Carroll

George Walter Carroll, 58, passed away Monday, December 9, 2013 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.  

He was born in on January 10, 1955 in Alton, IL, the son of George and Willa “Billy” (Cox) Carroll Sr.

George owned and operated Hilltop Auction in Alton.  He was a former promoter of the Godfrey Speedway and a driver for Stutz Excavating.  He was a member of the Alton Eagles #254, the Illinois Auctioneers Association, Teamsters Local 525 and was an avid duck hunter and race car driver. 

He is survived by his mother, Willa “Billy” Carroll of Alton; his companion, Donna Bryant of Alton; a son and daughter in law, Josh and Nicki Carroll of Brighton; a grandson, Blake Carroll; two sisters, Sharon and Steve Hamburg of Alton and Sue Ann Carroll of Alton two step sisters, June and Red and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and a step sister, Gwen. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the funeral home with Chaplain Randy Butler officiating.  

Burial will follow at the Fosterburg Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
