George R. Reynolds, 81, passed away at 10:24 am, Saturday March 5, 2016 at Alton Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born in Wichita, Kansas on May 19, 1934 the son of the late Lloyd A. and Lenora L. (Marshall) Reynolds.

On July 10, 1954, he married the former Betty “Betsy” Anderson in Wood River. They enjoyed sixty one years of marriage.  He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He dearly loved his family.

He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and was a proud veteran.  He retired from Olin Corporation’s Engineering Department, taking early retirement after suffering a severe heart attack at the age of forty seven.  He was a member of the Masonic Piasa Lodge # 27 and the American Legion Post # 214. George was an avid reader and made good use of a Nook that was a gift from his two daughters. He also enjoyed spending time on his computer and listening to Cajun and Bluegrass music.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Kelly (Cord) Cooper of Moro and Kyla Farroll of Fairview Heights; five grandchildren, Meaghan (Chris) Kearbey of Bethalto, Caitlyn Cooper of Moro, Jordan Cooper of East Alton, Andrew George Farroll and Alex Farroll of Fairview Heights; four great grandchildren, Landon, Logan, Clayton, Machayla, and number five any day now, Kearbey of Bethalto.

He has two special nephews, Robert Tungett of Middleburg, FL and Mike Skinner of Rosewood Heights; two sisters in law, Alma Anderson of Godfrey and Frances Ballard of Roodhouse; two special friends, Glen (deceased) and Judy Schupbach.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Winifred Tungett and Ethel Skinner; and a brother Lloyd A “JR” Reynolds.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 9 am until time of funeral 11 am Tuesday March 8, 2016 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, IL.

Burial will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association, or a charity of one’s choice.
