George Harold Mugge, 83, died at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton. He was born August 4, 1929 in Alton the son of Lawrence and Inez (Heath) Mugge. He retired after 42 years of service as a supervisor with Laclede Steel in Alton. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. He enjoyed reading, traveling and gardening. In past years he had been a volunteer with the Boy scouts of America.
On October 13, 1947, he married Betty Jean Williamson, she survives. They had 65 loving years together. Also surviving are two daughters; Mary and John Miles of Alton, Martha “Muff” and Kenneth Stamper of Roxana, two sons; David Mugge of Alton and Paul and Gail Mugge of Alton, one daughter in law; Robin Mugge of Alton, six grandchildren; Jason Mugge of Alton, Eric Mugge of Grafton, Alexis Jacobson (Jason) of Naperville, IL, Jennifer Laird of Alton, Airman Thomas Stamper (Amber) of Pearl City, HI. and Jacob Stamper of Roxana. Six great grandchildren; Cody, Brandon, Maya, and Nicolas Mugge, Allison and Paul Jacobson. He was preceded in death by two sons; Charles Lawrence Mugge and George Edward Mugge, two brothers and their wives; Carl and Mae Mugge, Kenneth and Virginia Mugge, one infant brother, Leonard and an infant sister, his In laws; Charles and Agnes Williamson.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at GENT Funeral Home in Alton. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund or Masses.
