Freda Frye

Freda V. Laswell Frye, 84, passed away 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Edwardsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Alton on June 27, 1931, she was the daughter of Robert Floyd and Fay Luella (Andrews) Harris.

She had been an Art teacher in the Ferguson-Florissant School District for 20 years before retiring in 1992.

An active member of the 1st Southern Baptist Church in Forest Homes, where she had taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.  She was a member of the 'St. Louis Story Tellers Association'; a Past Worthy Matron of the Bethalto Order of the Eastern Star #847; past member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #1349 in Wood River; and will be remembered as a wonderful, fun-loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

She married George Logan Laswell in 1948 in Alton, he died in 1980.  She then married Claude Frye, who also preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Michele Rene Laswell of Wood River, Pamela Laswell of Key West, FL; five grandchildren, Steve (Beckah) Lyles, Rachael (Jonathan) Rhodes, Eric (Marie) Belcher, Justin (Ashley) Reeder, Pippin Laswell; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Huber of Bethalto; and a special cousin, Steven L. (Sandy) Miller.

Preceding her in death were her husbands; a son, Gregory Logan Laswell; brother, Arthur Harris; five sisters, Verna McNealy, Stella Dunsford, Alice Miller, Eileen Powell; son-in-law, Charlie Wolfson; and very best of friends, Halma Brown.

A Memorial Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. Friday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.

Memorials may be made to the ALS Foundation or Alzheimers Disease Foundation.
