Essie Jane Abernathy, 95, passed away 9:25 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Integrity Healthcare in Wood River.
Born on July26, 1920 in Hurricane, MO, she was the daughter of W.D. and Nellie T. (Condor) Brown.
She married Roy A. Abernathy on October 2, 1937 in Kenneth, MO. He died March 29, 2002.
Surviving are a son, Terry M. (Norma) Abernathy of Rosewood Heights, daughter, Lela (Russell) Solomon of Edwardsville; four grandchildren, Terri Jo Abernathy, Tina R. Osborne, Christopher Solomon, Suzanne Coleson; three great grandchildren, Clayton and Avary Osborne, Ashleigh Coleson; and a sister, Idell Dockins of Jackson, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and fifteen brothers and sisters.
Private family services and burial were conducted at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the Alton 5 A's.
