Ellen Kay Stiritz, 74, received eternal peace at 9:20 p.m., Sunday, August 17, 2014 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
She was born on April 27, 1940 in Alton, one of three children born to the late Kay Ove and Bertha (Lawin) Hansen.
Ellen married Arnold “Gene” Stiritz on March 3, 1962 in Brighton and together they shared nearly 52 years of marriage, and the joys of raising their two daughters, before his death on February 6, 2014.
Ellen was strong in her faith and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family whom she loved and cherished above all else.
Surviving are her two daughters and their spouses, Sharon and Bret Yates of Cottage Hills and Karen and Dirk Hernandez of Brighton; five grandchildren, Erica and her husband Nathan Ater of Brighton, Kara Figge of Arlington, TX, Kyle Yates, and his companion Tiffany Logan of Cottage Hills, Mercedes Hernandez and Shauni Hernandez both of Brighton; six great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy - Emma, Hayden, Cadence, Cale, Keegan and Andrew; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert “Bob” and Mary Ellen Hansen of Branson, MO.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Gene, she was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Hansen.
Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m., Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be at the Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be given to the Activity Department at Willow Rose Rehab & Health Center in Jerseyville in care of the funeral home.
