Ella Marie Votrain, 85, passed away at 2:20pm on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon. She was born on July 17, 1930, in Glen Carbon, Illinois, the daughter of the late William “Venn” and Ella (Blass) Vanek. She married Norman A. “Red” Votrain on July 9, 1949, in Collinsville and he preceded her in death in 2004. Following the death of her husband, she had a special friend Bill Schmidt who also preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters and sons in law: Cindy Cassens – Mickel and her husband: Sid of Edwardsville, Anna and Mark Jensen of Glen Carbon, four grandchildren: David Cassens II and his wife: Sarah, Leah Meyers and her husband: Jordan, Tara Jensen, and Dana Jensen. In addition, there are three great grandchildren: Emrich Cassens, Lorraine Cassens, Arthur Cassens and several cousins all survive.
She was formerly employed by the Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator. She worked for Holiday Inn as a bookkeeper for 30 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Edwardsville.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son: David M. Votrain and an infant grandson.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Meridian Village Chapel in Glen Carbon. Pastor Kent Schuette will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date at Buck Road Cemetery in Maryville.
Memorials are suggested to Faith in Action or to the Meridian Village Benevolent Fund.
