Eileen "Ruth" Portwood, 74, passed away 10:31 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born on May 29, 1941 in Wood River, she was the daughter of Herman Frederick and Sarah Blanche (White) Meyer.
She was a homemaker and retired Certified Nursing Assistant.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Portwood of Carrollton, Ronald (Doris) Portwood of Chapin; a daughter, Ramona (Gregg) Gaines of Lake Ozark, MO; eight grandchildren, Heather, Bobbi, Jeremy, Jessica, Katie, Kurtis, Kamryn and Drake; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Meyer, Sr. of South Roxana, Steve, Sr. (Norma) Meyer of Staunton; four sisters, Mary Jean Long of McClure, IL, Judy Rulo of Bethalto, Sue (Neil) Sperandio of East Alton, Patricia (Paul) Howard of Shipman; and a special friend, Thomas Bartholomew of Bethalto.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and two brothers, Bill Meyer, Sr. and Mike Meyer, Sr.
A visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. until time of a graveside service at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana. Pastor David Fields will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
