Edward LeRoy Ferguson, 90, of East Alton, IL, died at 7:13 a.m. Sat. Mar. 29, 2014 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton, IL.
He was born Aug. 6, 1923 in Jacksonville, IL.
On Nov. 22, 1946, he and Martha June Hambleton were married in Belleville, IL. She survives in East Alton.
The US Navy WWII veteran worked for Sinclair & Clark Oil for 37 years before retiring in 1985 and was a member of the Machinist Union. He was an active member and a Deacon for the Community of Christ in Wood River, IL. He also served his community by being a volunteer firefighter for many years with the Wood River and Godfrey fire departments. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He brought joy to everyone at Christmas time by playing Santa for over 40 years. LeRoy loved local history and accumulated many albums of people and events and was the recorder for the church.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, he is survived by: a daughter, Connie Ferguson of East Alton, a daughter-in-law, Linda Ferguson of Rosewood Heights, 4 grandchildren, Tina Ferguson (Chris) Edwards, Mark (Stacey) Ferguson, Kim Ferguson Hall and Amy Ferguson and 8 great-grandchildren, Samantha & Megan Edwards, Reese & Ty Ferguson, Austin, Dakota & Jaxxon Hall and Cameron Ferguson.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by: 2 sons, Larry Wayne Ferguson and Jeffrey LeRoy Ferguson and grandson-in-law, Chris Hall.
Memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until time of services at 4:00 p.m. Sun. Apr. 6, 2014 at the Community of Christ in Wood River, 2001 Vaughn Rd., Wood River (next to Applebee’s) with Elder Judy Loyd officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charity of One’s Choice.
