Edward Bregenzer

Edward “Ed” Leo Bregenzer, 87, passed away at 11:40 pm, May 3, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital.  

He was born in Godfrey on September 8, 1926, the son of the late Edward and Bertha (Boucher) Bregenzer.

He married Oleta Carr in 1947.  He later married Bonnie Ruth Kivett on July 31, 1978 in Godfrey.

He was a US Army veteran, having served in WWII.  Ed worked for Ford Motor Company for 32 years.  He also owned and operated Bregenzer Heating & Cooling for 31 years until retiring in 1995.  He was a member of Edwardsville Moose Lodge #1561 and Bethalto American Legion Post #214.  He and his wife Bonnie enjoyed traveling extensively across the country, spent winters in Florida, and enjoyed cruises.  

Edward is survived by his wife, Bonnie of 36 years and children: Diane and Morris Higgins of Renton, WA, Larry and Sandy Bregenzer of Alton, Pamela Taylor of Hettick, Scott Bregenzer of Coffeen, Bradley Bregenzer of East Alton; step sons: Mike & Vi Kivett of Dorsey, IL, Gordon and Sara Kivett of Bethalto, Mark and Patty Kivett of Cottage Hills; and one brother, Laverne and Marie Bregenzer of Alpearetta, GA He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; twenty six great-grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his ex-wife, one son, Chris Bregenzer three sisters, Bertha Strebel, Edna Widman, and Loretta Walter, two brothers, Clarence and Robert Bregenzer, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 until services at 7 pm on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Pastor Mike Rayson officiating. Military rites will be given by Alton VFW Post #1308.

Private burial will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens at a later date.  

Memorials may be made to Bethalto United Methodist Church Building Fund.
