Earlene Mae “Mark” Cox, age 79, of Alton, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born August 1, 1934, in Alton, the daughter of Hubert and Hilda (Dittmer) Thornhill. She married Jerry Cox on July 3, 1954 in Jerseyville, and he survives. She worked for nearly fourteen years at Lander Cosmetics. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of her life.
In addition to her husband, Jerry, she is survived by four children and their significant others, Cindy Kaska of Alton, Teresa (Cox) Greiner and Charles Hinkle of East Alton, Jerry and Darlene “Peach” Cox Jr. of Alton, and Chad and Carey Cox of Godfrey; a sister, Janet Bailey of Arizona; a brother, Melvin Thornhill of Bunker Hill; nine grandchildren, Marc and Amy Cox, T.J. Robertson, Tara Robertson, and Tyler Cox, all of Alton, and Daniel Patton, Amanda Cox, Jenna Cox, Gracie Cox, and Lauren Cox, all of Godfrey; three great-grandchildren, Drew Cox, Scout Cox, and Jordyn Giffin, all of Alton; and many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; ten sisters; a brother; and a son-in-law, Fred Kaska.
A visitation will be held Thursday, January 9, 2014, from 3 to 5:00 pm at Godfrey First United Methodist Church, 1100 Airport Rd., Godfrey, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 5:00 pm with Pastor Don Long officiating.
Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the family.
