Dr. Peter K. Lekkas

Dr. Peter K. Lekkas, 87, passed away at 9:35 am Wednesday May 6, 2015 at home.

He was born on June 16, 1927 in Thessaloniki, Greece the son of the late Konstantinos & Fanee (Korneti) Lekkas.

He married Samary Homburg on May 31, 1959 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in St. Louis, MO.  She survives.

Dr. Lekkas graduated from the University of Thessaloniki medical school in 1954.  From 1954 to 1963 he did post graduate work at Washington University specializing in general surgery, thoracic surgery and cardiovascular surgery. He became a United States citizen in 1968 and practiced medicine in Alton for many years.

In addition to his wife, Dr. Lekkas is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Fanee & Wayne Freeman of Bozeman, MT and Mary & Derrick Stiebler of St. Louis, MO; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Konstantinos & Lolani Lekkas of Des Moines, IA; five grandchildren, Trent & Nicholas Stiebler, Elleana, Alexandra and Peter Lekkas; three step grandchildren, Sarah Stiebler (Cotur), Emily and Abby Freeman;  one sister, Athena Davelopoulou of Greece; and two nephews, Yiannis and Konstantinos Davelopoulos, both of Greece.

Cremation rites will be accorded.

Visitation will be from 9 am until time of Memorial Service at 11 am Saturday May 16, 2105 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey with Pastor Irene Gulovsen.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
