Douglas Leach

Douglas R. Leach, 90, passed away at 1:53 am on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

He was born on February 27, 1925 in Minneapolis, MN the son of Raymond M. and Pearl A. (Peterson) Leach. Douglas married Aldora Marie Allandslee on December 21, 1947, in Bemidji, MN.

Douglas was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Alton. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during World War II. He was an employee of the St. Louis Public School System, as a teacher/administrator at O’Fallon Technical High School for 38 years before retiring in 1987. He was a member of the 12th Bomb Group (Earth Quakers) they would have a reunion once a year, he would always write a newsletter to the group once a month and had done so for 14 years. He enjoyed attending a luncheon twice a year with his fellow teachers from St. Louis retirement group. Douglas enjoyed traveling, especially to Minneapolis, where a majority of his family is from, reading, doing wood work and upholstery work.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by four children and their spouses, Deborah (Dave) Jackson of Ballwin, MO, Dorie and (Rick) Sebold of Godfrey, Mark (Kathy) Leach of Ballwin, MO, Diane Oberkrom of Canton, GA; eight grandchildren, David (Heidi) Jackson, Dennis Jackson, Bernie (Jen) Sebold, Jennifer (Guy) Spangler, Mary (Brian) Simonds, Allison Leach (Rick Mick), Jane (Ben) Woodard, Augie Oberkrom; eight great-grandchildren, Hayden, Coleton and Layni Sebold, Drew, Alex and Abby Spangler and Caitlin and Andrea Jackson; sisters, Fern Waldo of Kelliher, MN, Rayma Heldt of Bemidji, MN, Joanne Folkerts of Coon Rapids, MN; Gail (Howard) Halverson of Bethel, MN; brothers, Rod (Evelyn) Leach of Kelliher, MN, Elmo (Betty) Leach of Fairfiled, NE  and Danny Leach of Kelliher, MN; sister-in-law, Jewel Andrews of Minnesota along with numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister at birth; a brother, Arthur Leach; son-in-law, Phil Oberkrom; three brothers-in-law, Fred Heldt, Lawrence Waldo and George Andrews.

Visitation will be 9:30 am until the time of funeral service at 11:00 am on Monday, November 23, 2015 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.

Interment will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton with Military Rites accorded by the Alton VFW Post #1308.

Memorials may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church in Alton.
