Dorthey “Dottie” V. (Heiens) DePew, 94, passed away at 4:18 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield, IL. Dottie was born on September 21, 1919 to Charles Johnson and Grace Addison Johnson in Centralia, IL. Her family moved to Alton, IL. She graduated from Alton Senior High School and Wells Business College. She attended SIU Extension, Alton, IL. She was married to Richard A. Heiens of Alton, IL for 25 years. Together they had three children, Dr. Richard A. Heiens (Gabriella) of Akin, SC, Jill Henson (William) of Springfield, IL, and Jan Heiens of Springfield, IL. She was also married to Joe D. DePew of Bethalto, IL for 16 years. During her lifetime, Dottie held several positions of medical secretary, accounting manager and medical librarian. She owned an antique store in Bethalto, IL for several years. She traveled to several countries abroad (Italy, England, Scotland, Egypt, Africa, France and Spain) and lived in Saudi Arabia for 2 years. She enjoyed reading, ballroom dancing, oil painting and jewelry making. After a heart attack in 1994, Dottie moved from West Palm Beach, FL to Springfield, IL to be closer to her daughters, she lived over 10 years at Illinois Presbyterian Home. Dottie enjoyed shopping, bingo and eating out with her daughters. Dottie always enjoyed doing various activities and she was always doing something. She greeted everyone with a smile and liked to socialize. She will be greatly missed by her daughters and son and the many people she has had the opportunity to meet. Dottie is survived by her three children and five grandchildren, Timothy Henson (Diane) of Springfield, IL, Bryan Henson (Jill) of Springfield, IL, Marina Parise (Mike) of California, Deborah Diamond of Florida, Rickie Heiens (Karie) of South Carolina, and 10 great grandchildren, a sister, Helen Weindel of Clearlake, CA, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Voris and Howard Belt and Veda and Frances Gillard. A special thanks from family to staff of 100 hall at Lewis Memorial Christian Village and Memorial Home Services Hospice for all of the care, compassion and tenderness given to Dottie.
