Dorothy Pilz, 88, entered eternal life at 4:00 a.m. on March 7, 2013, at Provision Living in Godfrey. Dorothy was born on January 31, 1925 in Alton to William and Clara (Feddersen) Wilken. She married Gerhard Pilz on August 29, 1948 in Alton. They shared nearly 50 years of marriage before he passed away on August 28, 1998. Dorothy worked at Illinois Bell Telephone Co. as a secretary until her children were born. She later worked as a secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church and Garfield School in the Alton School District. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Thelma Siebert. Surviving is a son, David Pilz of Placerville, CA, and a daughter, Cathy Massey and husband Randy of Godfrey. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Douglas Hughey and wife Jenny of Overland, MO, Lisa Monroe and husband Jon of Bethalto, and David Massey and wife Erin of Godfrey; and three great grandchildren, Olivia Monroe, Lillian Monroe, and Laura Hughey. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alton until it closed in 2012 at which time she joined Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey. Dorothy had a strong faith and devotion to God. Her compassionate and caring ways will always be remembered by the many lives she touched. She will be greatly missed in this life, but we look forward to our reunion in Heaven. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey. Reverend Kenneth Tegtmeier will officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Resurrection Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
