Dorothy Schulz

Dorothy Nicolet Schulz, 86, passed away in her sleep at Alton Memorial Hospital on Sunday, April 5, 2015.The eldest daughter of Leo and Mary Jane Nicolet, Dorothy was born on October 14, 1928 in Alton.  She graduated from Alton High School and St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, which instilled in her a lifelong passion in service to others as a registered nurse. Over the next 40 years, Dorothy lived this noble calling to the fullest, which culminated in her position as the longtime Director of Nursing at Alton Memorial Hospital.Dorothy is survived by the love of her life, Arthur E. Schulz of Alton, whom she married on October 7, 1950 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They were blessed with five children, all of whom survive: John and Marie Schulz of Skandia, MI; Rebecca and Ron Wilkinson of Cottontown, TN; Eric and Pamela Schulz of Springfield, VA; Ned and Jill Schulz of Godfrey, IL; and Marilyn and Dan Erzen of Bethalto, IL.Dorothy’s memory is especially cherished by her eleven grandchildren, as well as twelve great-grandchildren.Her life will be celebrated with a Visitation and a Funeral Mass on Thursady, April 9th, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton starting at 9 am with the funeral to follow.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Dorothy’s memory be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton IL, Marquette Catholic High School, or the Salvation Army of Alton.Staten-Fine Funeral Home of Alton is in charge of arrangements.Online condolences and a guestbook may be found at www.staten-fine.com.
