Dorothy Cordes

Dorothy J. (Logan) Cordes, 90, passed away 10:17 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at VIP Manor in Wood River her family at her side.Dorothy was born in Benton, IL on October 19, 1923, the daughter of David M. and Linnie E. Logan.She was one of seven children, all of whom preceded her in death.  She graduated from Wood River Community High School in 1941 and later married Wilbert L. Cordes at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wood River on July 2, 1944.  They enjoyed a loving marriage of 69 years.Dorothy worked throughout her life in a variety of secretarial positions, beginning with her first job at the Draft Board during WWII.  She retired while employed at Wood River-Hartford School District to spend time with her grandchildren.Dorothy was a devoted, loving, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She enjoyed her home and gardening, and the kind and loving friends and neighbors she was fortunate to have in her life.In addition to her husband, Wilbert, she is survived by a son, David J. Cordes of Wood River, and grandson, Joseph P. (his fiance', Jeanette) of California; daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Michael W.) Tassinari of East Alton, along with three granddaughters and three great grandchildren, Elizabeth L. [Stolze] and her husband, George R., Jr. Adams and their children, Margaret Dorothy and George R Adams, III of Franklin, TN, Kathleen A. Stolze, (Stuart Kauhane) and their daughter, Naomi Anne of Hawaii, Sarah J. [Stolze] Belmonte, and her husband, Salvador Belmonte of California.Dorothy is donating a Gift of Life to Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.Marks Mortuary in Wood River was in charge of arrangements.
