Dorothy G. Ricks, 91, resident of the United Methodist Village, died at her home on July 3, 2014. She was born in Roxana on February 9, 1923, the daughter of Clyde Willis Condray and Deloris Pace Condray. She married Clifton L. Ricks in Roxana on July 4, 1943 at the Roxana Presbyterian Church. He preceded her in death in 2003. “Dot” graduated from East Alton-Wood River high School in January 1940 and entered Shurtleff College and the nursing program of Alton memorial hospital until her marriage. She was an elder of the Presbyterian Church and most recently a member of Salem Presbyterian Church.
Other interests included Eastern star and the Wood River Women’s Club. She was an avid bridge player in the fifties and early sixties, and in the mid-sixties she worked for several years as secretary to the director of St. Joseph Hospital Nursing School. In later years, Dot and her husband were active in Best Years club and traveled throughout the United States with that group. Until her eyesight failed, she was accomplished at knitting, embroidery and needlepoint, and she especially enjoyed participating in the quilting circle at Salem Presbyterian church.
She is survived by her son Michael L. Ricks and his wife Janice, her grandson Stephen M. Ricks and wife Megan, and her precious great-grandson Milo Harrison Ricks. Also surviving are a nephew Rand E. Boettger (Deny), and niece Lynn Dillow (Otis).
As was her wish, her remains were cremated. Her ashes will be interred beside those of her husband in Valhalla Memorial Park at a private burial service to be held at a later date. Gent Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
