Doris B. Schulz, 90, passed away at 7:30 am Friday, February 21, 2014 at her residence with her family by her side.
She was born on April 4, 1923 in Bremer County, Iowa, the daughter of Walter John and Ella D. (Heidemann) Buhman.
She married Eugene “Gene” H. Schulz on November 11, 1947 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Peoria, IL. He preceded her in death on August 22, 2002.
Doris was a bookkeeper at the Alton Medical Group for twenty years until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, where she volunteered. She was a member of Leisure Friends Travel Group and Friends and Neighbor’s Travel Group. She enjoyed playing bridge and crocheting.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Cathy Schulz of Carmel, IN and Neil and Emily Schulz of Godfrey; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and David Banta of San Diego, CA, Laura and Michael Cohen of Chicago, Daniel Schulz and fiancé Leanne Carey of Dallas, Joseph & Rebecca Schulz of St. Louis, MO, Benjamin Schulz of Denver, Co, and Andrew and Kristen Schulz of St. Louis, MO; Ten great grandchildren, Ian Banta, Alice Banta, Helen Banta, Charlotte Banta, Linus Banta, Margo Cohen, Chloe Cohen, Audrey Schulz, Henry Schulz and August Schulz; one sister, Berna Ohley of Alton and numerous nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by an infant son, a brother, Roger Buhman and a brother-in-law, Edmund Ohley.
Visitation will be from 9 am to 10 am Monday, February 24, 2014 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 am on Monday, February 24, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton.
Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Alton.
Memorials may be made to Masses or St. Mary's Church Capital Fund.
