Donald Schlueter

Donald Wayne Schlueter, 86, formerly of Godfrey, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at his daughter’s home in Ballwin, MO. Born December 6, 1927 in Alton, he was the son of Fred F. and Iva J. (Bishop) Schlueter. Mr. Schlueter served in the U.S. Navy from April 16, 1946 until January 23, 1948. He had a passion for music and was a first chair trumpet player in the U.S. Navy Band. He was also a member of the Alton Muny Band and played big band music in his own group throughout the Alton area. In 1984 Mr. Schlueter retired from Standard Oil/Amoco as a supervisor/computer analyst. After retirement he was a private consultant for Amoco. On December 18, 1948 he married the former Wilma L. Paynter in Alton. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and James Fehlig of Ballwin, MO, a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Carla Schlueter of Bloomsdale, MO, three grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Stacey, Molly and James Jr., and two great grandchildren, Natalie and Noelle. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Fred B. Schlueter. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Godfrey Baptist Church, where he was an active member. Reverend Dr. Glen Greenwood will officiate. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the Godfrey Baptist Church, St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, MO or the American Cancer Society.
