Donald Wayne Norris, 73, died at 6:18 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at his residence, surrounded by his family after a brave battle with lung cancer.He was born in Roodhouse on May 8, 1938, and was the son of the late Cecil & Martha (Herron) Norris.Don was a U.S. Marine veteran and began his employment with Mat Stern in Alton as a foreman/crane operator for a number of years. He also worked for Standard Pipe in Houston, Texas as a crane operator, and drove a truck for numerous companies, retiring as a driver with LCL Transit in 2007.He married the former Beverly (Ballard) Newton on March 11, 1972 in Jerseyville, and together they have shared 39 years together.Surviving in addition to his wife, are five children & their spouses, Donald A. & Cindy Norris of Kane, David L. & Laura Norris of Ozark, Mo., Deborah S. Newton of Carrollton, Daniel E. & Ann Norris of Jerseyville, and Jeffrey L. Newton of White Hall; 10 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Lindel Norris of Peoria; and two sisters in law, Gladys Norris of East Peoria and Carol Norris of Normal.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Larry J. Norris, Everett E. Norris and Cecil M. Norris.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Paul Williams will officiate.Burial will be in the Kane Cemetery.Memorials may be given to the summer camp program at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville or to BJC Hospice.
