Donald Albert Waters, 85, passed away at 6:30 am Tuesday May 27, 2014  at home with his family by his side. 

He was born on August 18, 1928 in Alton, IL the son of Albert & Marie (Boercker) Waters.

Don married Phyllis Taulli on April 25, 1953 and celebrated 61 years of marriage. 

He graduated from Marquette High School in 1946.

Don served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan 1946 to 1948.

He attended Drake University.

He worked as a Maintenance Supervisor for Shell Oil Company for 35 years where he retired in December 1986.

Don was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton where he was active in the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He also served as an Usher and Lector. 

Don was also a long time member of St. Patrick’s Church in Alton until it closed. He was active in Scouting, Bingo and Annual Turkey Dinners. He also served as an Usher and Lector.

He attended the White House Retreat in St. Louis, MO for over 10 years.

He loved spending time with his family and will be missed by his wife, Phyllis Waters of Alton, three daughters and three sons-in-law, Donna & Bob Aszman of Peachtree City, GA, Sharon & Tom Hettel of St. Charles, MO, Laura & Tim Powers of Quincy, IL; four sons and two daughters-in-law, David Waters of St. Louis, MO, Thomas & Charli Waters of Alton, IL, Michael & Susan Waters of Shipman, IL, and Robert Waters of St. Louis,  MO; fourteen grandchildren, Matt,  Julie, Danielle, Rebecca, Jordan, Karley, John, Jake, Tim, Sara, Chris, Angie, Emily, and Rachel; four great grandchildren, Avery, Ella, William, and Carson;  two sisters, Dolores Weaver of Alton, Mary Sue Winkler of Alexandria, VA; one brother, Gerald Waters of Gresham, OR.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Rolando.

The Waters’ Family would like to thank the Nurses at Alton Memorial Hospital, BJC Hospice and Absolute Health Care for all their help and comfort during his final weeks.

Visitation will be held from 10 am until time of a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon Thursday May 29, 2014 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton with Monsignor Kenneth Steffen celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to: St. Vincent DePaul at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, BJC Hospice or SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
