Dolores Kaffenberger

Dolores M. “Dee” Kaffenberger, 91, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, died on Saturday, June 20, 2015.

Born March 7, 1924 in St. Louis, she was the daughter of John and Stella (Werner) Stamer.

She married Lee O. Kaffenberger in the summer of 1950.  He preceded her in death.

Dee and Lee were the owners of the old Comet Restaurant and later, Liquor Store on Broadway in Alton, and was a resident of Rosewood Heights.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Johnson; grandchildren, Missy Wallace, Michael Wallace, Jr., Norton Freeze III, June Freeze, Marsha Gomez, and Richard Burch; great grandchildren, Hunter Mertz, Christopher and Danny Wallace, Evie, Angie and Alex Gomez, Victoria Camboia and Miracle Garcia; and cousins Dan, David and Michelle Neubauer, Karen Henke, Susan Sonnenberg, Nancy Elledge, Betty Reynolds, and Minerva Vale.

Visitation will be 9 – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 24 at Paynic Home for Funerals in East Alton.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father James Flach at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice.
