Dean E. Oehler, 70, died at 1:44 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born April 24, 1943 in Litchfield, IL, he was the son of the late Albert and Marie (Coco) Oehler. He graduated from Staunton High School in 1961 and served in the Army during Vietnam. He graduated from SIU Carbondale and then went on to teach electronics at Wood River High School for six years. In 1979 he started teaching electronics at Lewis and Clark Community College, retiring in 2002. He was a member of Lewis & Clark Radio Club, helping out yearly with the Bucket Brigade and Alton Halloween Parade. As a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, Godfrey, Dean served as an Elder, Deacon, and Sound System Operator. He loved his church and was always available to help with computers, wiring and many other tasks too many to mention. He went on eight mission trips across the country with the church youth, helping to build decks for those in need. Dean was an avid Cardinals fan. He was a kind, caring and thoughtful person and will be missed by many. On May 22, 1981 he married the former Brenda S. Deeder. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Kimberly Dunse (Mike) of Alton, grandchildren, Jessica Wyatt of Godfrey, and Tyler Wyatt of Shipman, and a great grandson, Chance Wyatt of Godfrey. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey. Reverend Jerry MeCaskey will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Memorials may be made to the Evangelical United Church of Christ Capital Improvement Loan.
