Deaconess Slack

Deaconess Iola (Vaughn) Slack age 87, fell asleep in Lord at 10:20 a.m. at her home. She was born August 28, 1927 in Oxford, MS.  She was the daughter of Albert and Mattie (Sanders) Vaughn.  She married Russell Lee Slack on December 7, 1946, he preceded her in death. She was a faithful member of Greater St. James Baptist Church where she served on the Culinary Ministry, Choir, Baptismal Ministry, and as a Deaconess.She is survived by a son Robert (Annette) Slack of Indianapolis, IN; daughters Viviette (Vincent Mitchell) Gynese Slack, and Sandra Singleton (Rudolph) a son-in-law Howard Neal  all of Alton; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 4 sisters Earlean Rogers of Augusta, GA; Mary Alice Mason of Alton, Catherine (W.D.) Driver of Etta, MS; and Marie Goolsby of Oxford, MS; a special cousin Alice Martin of Alton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, her church family and friends.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lavern Neal, a son Ronnie Slack, a grandson John Henry, 2 brothers, Rev. Will Vaughn and Edward Vaughn, 6 sisters, Henriette Vaughn, Emma Hillard, Laura Mae Vaughn, Alean Williams, Louella Jones and Dora Mae Forrest.Visitation Saturday April 25, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Greater St. James Baptist Church in Alton.Rev.
