Curtis Cawvey

Curtis J. "Sonny" Cawvey, 79, passed away 1:37 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2016 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

Born on January 12, 1937 in Highlans, IL, he was the son of Curtis Calvin and Alice (O'Shea) Cawvey.

A navy veteran, he had been a welder before joining the Village of South Roxana Street Department and after retiring, worked as a school bus monitor.

He married the former Carolyn S. Gall on July 29, 1961 in East St. Louis.  She survives.

Surviving also are two daughters, Angela S. Shoup pf Dayton, OH, Dawn M. Cawvey of Edwardsville; son, Marvin G. Ballance of Oklahoma; six grandchildren, James B. "J.B." Ballance, Brittny M. Cawvey, Kalah Ballance, Kendun J. Brown, DaShia N. Brown, Abigail F. Shoup; two great grandchildren, Cayden and Mackynlee McNeil; daughter-in-law, Brenda Ballance of Collinsville; three brothers, Harold A. Mowry of Florida, Larry (JoAnn) Cawvey of Cahokia, Mark (Donna) Cawvey of Dupo; and two sisters, Sheila (Darrell) Griffen of Atlanta, GA

In accordance with his wishes, his body was cremated and will be interned in Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana at a later date.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at a later date.

Marks Mortuary in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
