Charles Stuart Erwin, 74, died at 1:15 a.m., Sunday, December 6, 2015 at his residence.He was born in Jerseyville on Feb. 2, 1941, the son of Floyd & Irene (Foster) Erwin.He was a 1959 graduate of Jersey Community High School, and served with the U.S. Army in South Vietnam during the war.He was employed with Ford Motor Company at their assembly plant in Hazelwood, Mo. for 38 years, retiring in 2003, after which he was able to spend more time following the St. Louis Cardinals, reading and listening to varied type of music.He had many interests, including collecting Anheuser-Busch memorabilia, as well a large assortment of beer cans.  He made lasting connections with many of the area youth during this time, many of which still kept in contact and made personal visits to check on his well being.  Many thanks to Todd Henderson, Steve Heitzig, Mark Heitzig, Donnie Miller, Mike Bray, Craig Henderson, Doug Mann, Jimmy Dwyer, and the late Patrick Bray for their friendship.He also looked forward to playing cards with Jerry Schleper, David Hefner, John Hefner, Willie Goetten, Gene Parsell, Ralph Sievers, Donald Price, Donald Warkins and the late David Heitzig, and the friendships that he made during those times.Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Harriet Erwin of Jerseyville; his only son and daughter in law, Charles Eric & Diane Erwin of St. Charles, Mo., his beloved granddaughter, Amanda Cassidy Erwin; a special friend, whom he considered a brother, Vernon Chappell of Jerseyville; sisters in law, Bonnie McCracken of Jerseyville and Norma Clifton of Edinburg; two brothers in law, Robert Fitzgerald of Flora and Donald Fitzgerald of Springfield; a half sister ,Donna Holcomb of Jerseyville; an uncle, Roy Foster of Jerseyville; an aunt, Joan Foster of Jerseyville, as well as numerous cousins, and three half brothers, John Shaw, Tim Shaw, and James Shaw all of Jerseyville.Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday.  Rev. Wilbur Cain will officiate.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the Blessing Hospice of Greene County.
