JERSEYVILLE-  Charles Laverne White, 79, died at 6:50 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Jersey Community Hospital after a period of declining health.He was born in Jersey County, IL. on Dec. 11, 1935, the second of five sons born to Charles O. and Eva (Wayman) White.He was employed as a mechanic at the Boeing Corp. in St. Louis, retiring after 35 years of service, and was active in the union, obtaining membership in the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, and a member of the International Association of Machinists, Local Lodge D, District 837, serving as President of that organization for 16 years.He married the former Judith A. Purcell on Nov. 30, 1957 at the Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville, and together they have been blessed with 57 years.Charles loved to fish, read, hunt for mushrooms, and enjoyed traveling with his wife throughout the USA, with their favorite destination being Alaska.  With all those hobbies and interests, nothing compared to his love and fierce loyalty devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren.  He was a family man first and foremost.Surviving are his wife, Judith White of Jerseyville; a daughter, Dawn Renee White of Jerseyville; two sons & daughter in law, Brian Wayne & Terri White of Jerseyville, and Jeffrey Dean White of Jerseyville; five grandchildren, Tate Schmidt and his fiance' Jennifer Dossett of Alton, Taylor Merritt, and his wife, KaShel of Wood River, Morgan Merritt, and her fiance' Scott Johnson of Champaign, Aspen White and Montana White both of Florissant, Mo.; a step grandson, Trent Tucker of Jerseyville; a great grandson, Colby Merritt.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lloyd White, Leonard White, Robert White and Billy Jean White.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 12 at 10 a.m at the Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville, with Rev. Jonathan Stites officiating.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military rites in honor of his service with the U.S. Army.Memorials may be given to the Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville, where he had been a longtime member.
