Charles Wilson

Charles Joseph Wilson, 87, formerly of Roxana and Rosewood Heights, passed away and went to be with the Lord at 6am on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at the United Methodist Village in Godfrey.  He was born on June 19, 1927, in St. Louis, Missouri the son of the late William H. and Ella (Trexler) Wilson.  He married the former Peggy Malone on September 4, 1948, in Jackson, Tennessee and she survives.  Other survivors include two daughters and sons in law: Trina and Andy Sparks of Pekin, Illinois, Melanie and Jim Watkins of Raleigh, North Carolina, four grandchildren and their spouses: Ben and Samantha Sparks of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Abigail Sparks of Pekin, Illinois, Alexandra Watkins of Charlotte, North Carolina, Tony and Jennifer Watkins of Arkansas City, Kansas, five great – grandchildren, and one sister and brother in law: Hazel and Jack Cannedy of Grover, Missouri.

Joe was employed at the Clark Refinery for 41 years retiring as the Assistant Manager of Operations.  Following his retirement, Joe and Peggy moved to Winter Haven, Florida where they enjoyed playing golf and attending Calvary Baptist Church prior to returning to Rosewood Heights in 1997.  Joe was formerly a member of the Roxana Village Board, where he served on various committees and village boards.  He served as the Mayor of the Village of Roxana for 10 years.  He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Roxana where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday School teacher.  He was a member of the Gideon’s International.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Edna, Betty, Helen, and one brother: Maurice.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 9am until time of funeral services at 11am on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River.  Rev. Mike Stark and Rev. Roy Gibbs will officiate.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials are suggested to 1st Baptist Church of Roxana or to Gideon’s International.
