Charles Campbell

Charles H. Campbell, 80, died peacefully at 12:08 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Eunice smith Nursing Home in Alton.

Born on April 28, 1934 in Sturdivant, MO, he was the son of Oscar and Mildred (Moore) Campbell.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he will always be remembered for his kindness and compassion towards others and his love for watching the Chicago Cubs.

He had been in the forming division for Owens-IL Glass then served in the housekeeping department at Christian Hospital - NE before retiring.

He married the former JoAnn Darnell on june 28, 1963.  She died in 2006.

Surviving are two sons, Charles W. Campbell of Omaha, NE, W. Roger (Sally) Campbell of Somonauk, IL; a daughter, Charlotte Simpson (Ed Sauls) of Alton; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; five brothers, Eugene, Ed, Bob, Ricky and Curtis Campbell; and three sisters, Carol Campbell, Joyce Campbell and Shelby Wilson.

Preceding in death were his parents; wife; son, Christopher Campbell; daughter, Tammy Campbell; brother, Junior Campbell; and sister, Beaulah Rexford.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday.  Rev. Ron Bottens will officiate.

Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the Alton 5 A's Shelter.
