Charles “Charlie” W. Barnett, age 99, of Godfrey, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at St. Anthony’s Health Care Center.
He was born June 5, 1915, in Equality, IL, the son of Horace and Dora (Green) Barnett. Mr. Barnett served in the USAF and eventually rose to the position of Colonel. He married Margaret Clower on March 28, 1942, in Bell-Aire, Maryland. “Charlie” was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Alton, as well as Alton VFW Post #1308. He also served in the Reserve Officers Association in Washington, D.C.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Sally and Bruce Taylor of Pueblo, Colorado, and “Mare” of Alton; one son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Barbara Barnett of O’Fallon, MO; and eight grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; a son, Kim; his parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Maribell Barnett; and a baby sister.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm till time of a Celebration of Life service Monday, June 30, 2014 at 6:00 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton with Rev. David Crowley officiating. Military Burial Rites will be provided by Alton VFW Post #1308.
Burial will take place in Upper Alton Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to R.A.I.N.N.
