Charles A. Burk Jr., 87, died at 4:50 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2015, at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.
Born Jan. 15, 1928, in Alton, he was the son of Charles Allen Burk Sr. and Edith Marie (Lyall) Burk.
Mr. Burk served in the U.S. Army and attended Illinois State University for a short time. He was involved in dairy farming in Godfrey before going to work for the Olin Corporation. During the late 1960's and early 1970's, he operated a farm north of Brighton. He retired from Olin in 1990 as captain of security. He was a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church.
On Feb. 21, 1948, he married the former Joyce Elaine Maxeiner in Brighton. She preceded him in death on Jan. 20, 2009.
Surviving are three sons, Mike Burk of Union, Mo., Bruce E. Burk (Regina Haasis) of Champaign, and Stan Burk (Alice) of Decatur, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Burk and Lillian Seiler.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 20, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2015. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to the Salem Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer's Association .
