Charlene Lucille Hardwick, age 78, of Alton, formerly of Wood River, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013, at her home.
She was born September 4, 1934, in Alton, IL, the daughter of the late Rev. Samuel Elsworth Usher and Lora Lucille (Myers) Usher Young.
She married Harold Damon Hardwick on December 24, 1954, in Alton, and he preceded her in death May 15, 1978.
Mrs. Hardwick was a member of the First Assembly of God in East Alton. She was proud to have been the valedictorian of her GED class. Charlene worked for Senior Services Plus and performed volunteer work for several other area organizations.
She is survived by a son, Randy Hardwick of the Wood River area; two daughters, Cheryl Hardwick and Doris Hardwick, both of Wood River; two grandchildren, Son Nguyen of Granite City, and Tarmela Nguyen of Madison; four great-grandchildren, Esperanza Maria, Emilio Eduardo, Sasha Annabella, and Chloe Anastasia Nguyen; a half-sister and her husband, Anita and Art Eccard; a half-brother and his wife, Gary and Teresa Usher; and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Usher, and Gerry Usher.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Newell Usher, and Robert Usher, and a half-brother, Jerry Usher.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL where funeral services will be held at 10 am Wednesday, September 4, 2013, with Rev. Timothy Keller officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Garden in Bethalto.
Memorials may be directed to the First Assembly of God Church in East Alton Chair Lift Fund.
