Bonnidel “Bonnie” Schmidt, 87, died at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born April 6, 1928 in Alton, she was the daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth (Worthey) Brooks. Bonnie was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey and retired from the Alton School System and Lewis and Clark Community College in administration. She loved crafts, crossword puzzles and golf. She enjoyed playing cards and going to the boat. On September 10, 1949 she married Gerald W. “Jerry” Schmidt at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2012. Surviving is a daughter, LeAnn Johns (Ric) of Marine, IL, three sons, Jim Schmidt of St. Louis, MO, Robert Schmidt (Janie) of Town & County, MO, and Tom Schmidt (Susie) of Godfrey, 13 grandchildren, Emily Lacy (Justin), Adam “Buzz” Schmidt, Allison Schmidt-Feldman (Andrew), Matt Schmidt (fiancé Alana Rubinstein), Katie Krueger (Paul), Michael Wuellner, Dustin Johns, Kellin Johns, Cassidy Johns, Larrin Johns, Christopher Schmidt (fiancé Nicole Saracino), Jonathan “Jonah” Schmidt and Scott Andrew Schmidt, and two great grandchildren, Jackson and Luke Lacy. Also surviving is a sister, Clara Reinhardt (Bill) of Palm Desert, CA, a brother-in-law, Jim Clasby of Godfrey and several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Mary Pat Schmidt, a grandson, Drew Schmidt, a brother, Jerry Brooks, and a sister, Marilyn Drose. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2015 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Father Steve Pohlman will officiate. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the Drew Schmidt Scholarship Fund at Marquette Catholic High School. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
